Clallam County Junior Livestock Auction

The Youth Market Animal Auction and Show is a Non-Terminal Sale

​Exhibitors may show and sell only one entry

Quality Assurance Class – YQCA – Youth for the Quality Care of Animals  (Due with Entries by May 1st)

All exhibitors are required to complete the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA).  It is a national multi-species quality assurance program for youth ages 8 to 21 with a focus on three core pillars: food safety, animal well-being, and character development.  Follow the link below to the website: http://yqcaprogram.org/  

Vet Check

ALL entries MUST comply with the State & Interstate Health Regulation in effect at that time.  The show Veterinarian MUST AND WILL reject any animal with infectious or contagious disease or ecto-parasite.  Exhibitors should be aware that ringworm, warts, pinkeye, contagious ecthyma, scabies, lice, mites, ticks, keds, and fleas fall into these categories.  SCRAPIE TAGS ARE required for market lambs and goats.

Medicated Feeds & Drugs

It is a Federal requirement that all sellers must comply with all label directions as related to medicated feeds and drugs for slaughter animals. Clallam County Junior Livestock Auction reserves the right to administer drug testing to any animal of any species that has been entered to participate in this Auction. The time of possible drug testing can run from Pre weigh-in/Entry until the time of cut & wrap. If drug testing is to occur, the owner of the animal will be notified and be present during sample collection. Testing and collection will be administered by independent professional 3rd parties with no affiliation to the CCJLA or any of its officers or any of the participants of the CCJLA. The cost of this testing will be the responsibility of the CCJLA unless there is a positive result. If there is a positive result the owner will bear the cost of testing. If a positive result occurs, the following consequences will apply: If the animal has not yet sold, it will not sell. If the animal has already sold, the sale will be voided and the animal will be returned to the owner, dead or alive.

Animal Weights/Possession Dates

Beef – Steers ONLY (Possession March 1st)

Standard Breed Steers under 24 months of age and weighing 1,000 pounds and over, are eligible.

Miniature Breeds of Market Steers under 24 months of age and weighing a minimum of 600 lbs.

Lambs- Wether and ewe ONLY (Possession May 1st)

Lambs born after December 1 previous year and weighing 95 pounds and above are eligible.

Hogs- Barrows and gilts ONLY (Possession May 1st)

Hogs born after December 1 previous year and weighing 230 pounds and above are eligible.

Goats- Wether and doeling ONLY (Possession May 1st)

Goats born after December 1 previous year  and weighing 80 pounds and above are eligible.

Rabbits (Possession May 15th)

Rabbits weighing a minimum of 5 ½ pounds and a maximum of 9 pounds, no older than 6 months of age are eligible.

​Chickens (Possession June 3rd to June 18th)

Chickens weighing a minimum of 5 pounds each, in a pen of 3. Cornish Crossbred Chickens must be born, purchased, and in possession of the exhibitor between June 3rd and June 18th.                                          

Turkey (Possession April 13th to April 29th)

Hen Turkey to weigh a minimum of 14 pounds.

Tom Turkey to weigh a minimum of 24 pounds

Turkeys – Single bird. Broad Breasted White or Broad Breasted Bronze only. Turkey must be born, purchased, and in possession of the exhibitor between April 13th and April 29th.​

Ducks (Possession May 27 and June 11)

Single bird. Pekin or Muscovy ducks only. Duck must be hatched, purchased, and in possession of the exhibitor between May 27th and June 11th. Duck to weigh a minimum of 5 pounds.
 

Honey (Raw)
Honey exhibits are to consist of 3- 16oz Queenline jars (that will be auctioned) and 1- small jar
(for flavor/moisture testing) of raw honey. The honey must be extracted between August 15th of
the previous year and August 1st of the current year

Post Sale

The Clallam County Jr. Livestock Auction (CCJLA) is a non-terminal sale. Arrangements for processing have been made if desired.  If the animal is condemned for any reason during the slaughter process, the seller will absorb the loss.  The buyer’s offer becomes void.

If an Auction check is lost, the check cancellation fee will be taken out of the reissued check.

CCJLA may offer the following: 

  • An ultrasound evaluation on all pigs, sheep, and cattle.
  • A steer carcass evaluation.  The steers that are slaughtered and cut and wrapped at a site designated by the CCJLA may be evaluated.  An educational program may be provided with the data gathered from the designated slaughterhouse for anyone who would like to attend.
